ROLI Container Logistics, which specialises in arranging sea container transport across Europe, has a fleet of 30 of its own trucks and uses the same number of regular charters within its own planning. To monitor their fleet, the company has chosen several Webfleet solutions. Thanks to the tachograph manager, dashcams and assets to monitor reefer containers, they can follow drivers live, fuel consumption decreases and timekeeping runs more smoothly.
ROLI Container Logistics focuses on all types of sea container transport on a one-way basis, meaning they go out with a full container and return with a full container. Previously, communication with drivers was entirely by phone, e-mail or text message. As this was not always successful, the company started looking for a solution to make communication smoother and more efficient. They found this at Webfleet.
Continuous monitoring
Back in 2009, ROLI Container Logistics found its way to Webfleet. Back then, the company did not have its own vehicles, which made a mobile solution important to them. This allowed them to communicate with drivers and inform customers of the truck’s location.
“Webfleet referred us to their partner, ABC Telematics, who took care of everything from A to Z for us. To this day, we can contact our contacts at ABC Telematics if we have a problem or if we want another new addition to our system. In other words, we can count on continuous follow-up,” testifies Ed Roest, director of ROLI Container Logistics.
Combining solutions
Currently, the tachograph manager and assets to monitor reefer containers are combined with dashcams in the trucks. Thanks to the tachograph manager, drivers’ driving and rest times can be monitored more easily. In addition, the dashcams help ensure drivers’ safety. The solution to monitor reefers eliminates the need to manually check whether or not the engine is running in the case of refrigerated containers. As soon as the engine fails or is turned off, a pop-up arrives asking for confirmation.
“We already have a fairly complete system, but there are definitely a few more things in the pipeline. For example, in the future we want to look at implementing a vehicle check, so that drivers can check their vehicles every morning based on a set checklist that is provided,” Ed Roest adds.
User-friendly and efficient
“Webfleet’s platform is very user-friendly,” says Kees de Koeijer, head of planning at ROLI Container Logistics. “The insights we get from the data and reports can be clearly followed up with the OptiDrive module. In it, we can immediately see whether a driver is maintaining good fuel consumption or not performing absurd braking or extreme steering manoeuvres. Through the CAN bus system, we also see immediately when a vehicle needs maintenance, which in turn makes a difference in the downtime of our vehicles.”
Thanks to the follow-up, ROLI Container Logistics notices a 4% reduction in fuel consumption. By driving more economically, they can also make longer use of their equipment. “Since fuel is one of the few fluctuating costs, it helps us enormously to save as much as possible on that thanks to Webfleet’s system,” Ed Roest concludes.
